Madi is one of the remote places of Chitwan which is still backward in infrastructures. There is no electricity and good road which has made the lifestyle of the residents complicated. Since few years, the bridge is being built but it has not been completed yet. The place is not so far away from the main city but the bumpy roads, fewer vehicles, path of jungle has made people suffer which is affecting them directly, and in addition, they don’t have the health care facilities nearby. The other major problem is LOW socio-economic condition. Many people cannot afford a good health facility.

Narayan is age 27 yrs. old from Ayodhyapuri Madi, chitwan. He was working in India 3 month ago .At that time, He was suffering from asthma, fast heat beat & had been to doctor. According to Doctor, he has Aplastic Anemia Disease. He came back to home & started to ask for help to his treatment to different organization. It is very expensive treatment as single dose of injection costs about Rs 19,000. He knew our organization &come to ask for help. He needs 28 ATG injections against aplastic anemia. Among 28, Clinic Nepal provided one injection to him while other injections were supported by political parties, local community, his relatives and he himself collected some money by singing
in different places. He had injection from April 30 to May 4, seven injections per day. He is still admitted In Bharatpur Cancer Hospital, Chitwan since 2 months.

Die Tage in der Clinic mit den Ärzten, Krankenschwestern, dem Health Assistant und ClinicManager, der Küchendame und allen anderen waren eindrucksvoll und lehrreich. Patienten aller Altersklassen kamen tagtäglich. Ob eine Platzwunde nach einem Motorradunfall, Zahnschmerzen, Husten und Schnupfen, Sehschwäche, gynäkologische Fragestellungen, Hautinfektionen, Rückenschmerzen oder private Probleme- jeder fand hier ein offenes Ohr, eine helfende Hand.

Absolut lesenswert, der vollständigen Bericht der frankfurter Medizinstudentin Julia samt Fotos.

Liebe Nepalfreunde, wieder naht unsere Jahreshauptversammlung, zu der wir Sie/Euch am 17.12.2011 einladen möchten. Health Camps in Eastern Madi.

The Meghauli based staff of Clinic Nepal along with volunteers from Nepal, Germany, and the US conducted a most successful health camp September 11-16 2011 in some areas that had not been visited for about one and a half years. Nearly 1000 patients were evaluated. Some patients age 50 had never been seen by a physician. Most infants were born at home and although vaccinated to the credit of a strong vaccination program in Nepal have received no ongoing health care. Many infants under 6 months were evaluated which is most important to detect congenital disorders (genetic, cardiac, skeletal, neurologic and others) which if detected early can be corrected and lead to a normal life with lessening of the burden on an already limited system. Infants and children with congenital heart disease, multiple congenital anomalies including cleft lip and palate, extra digits, hearing and visual impairment, and urologic/genital abnormalities were evaluated and referred for definitive treatment.

Many greetings from Nepal, We all are very well and busy on work and Health camp. May you know about Hindu’s Festival Dashain it has been started. We would like to wish you Happy Vijaya Dashain.
This time Clinic Nepal has been run 3 weeks Free Health camp in Madi area as usual, Dr Bob, his team from USA, Dr Klaus, his team from Germany, medical team and Clinic Nepal staff were participate on this health camp.

Some Details are as bellow:

1) During the health camp we were found some patients who need operation immediately with poor condition, on 29th Sep 2011 One patient is get operation in Narayani community Hospital Chitwan, 4 patients are in under investigation, and more than 20 patient are in our operation list who are going to operate after Dashain Festival. I will send you patient personal details soon. We don’t know how many patients are going to show-up.
2) One of patient (Manisha Pariyar) 10 years old girls is suffered from IDIOPATHIC THROMBOCYTOPENIC immediately refer to Teaching hospital Kathmandu for her further treatment, she is in under investigation now about her daises.
3) The kindergarten is on Holiday for Dashain Festival, On 30th Sep 011 children from Aasako Kiran hostel Daldale, they went their home to celebrate Dashain, they have 15 days holiday.
4) On 1st Oct Dr. Klaus and team going to handover 22 Got to needy women from Meghauli VDC.
5) Hari is in Meghauli with Volunteer for health Camp.

Schauplatz ist das Dorfkonglomerat Meghauli am Chitwan-Nationalpark im nepalesischen Tiefland, an/in dem Tekker und Bergsteiger gerne „chillen“.

Initiatior ist der Nepali Hari Bhandary, der schon als Jugendlicher Touristen, die sich in die Gegend „verirrt“ hatten, wegen seiner Vision einer nahen medizinischen Versorgung, hemmungslos ansprach. Nach Lehrjahren in einem Lepra-Projekt in Kathmandu und zähen, sich über Jahre hinziehenden Verhandlungen im Dorf wurde 1997 sein Traum mit finanzieller Unterstützung britischer Touristen wahr, die „Friendship Clinic Nepal“ (in unserem Sinne eine Ambulanz) mit Gratisbehandlung durch Allgemeinmediziner und (stundenweise) Fachärzte eröffnet. Sie versorgt bis zu 50.000 Menschen
basismedizinisch.

Die Zeitschrift des Alpenvereins hat einen ausführlichen Artikel in dem über Hilfsorganisationen in Bergregionen berichtet wird. Auf deren Website wird auch auf die Clinic Nepal hingewiesen.

A total of 7,980 patients were treated at the Friendship Clinic during the year. This figure is similar to the number of patients that visited the clinic during 2008 (8,152). The slight decrease may be due to the improved sanitation of the village, which is helping to decrease the number of gastrointestinal problems that are attributed to drinking unsafe water, as well as poor personal and food hygiene. The Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation Project is continuing to drill wells and install latrines to give local people access to safe drinking water, and improve their knowledge about good hygiene. The health education delivered by the clinic staff also provides information about other health related issues, such as mental illness, which local people know very little about.

Flood Erosion.

Neuigkeiten, was die Überschwemmungsproblematik angeht:

In August 2008, heavy floods caused river erosion, collapse of river banks and the destruction and loss of houses at Bhagardi.

Thanks to the Gibraltar funding branch of Clinic Nepal, work has gone on during the last year to repair damage and ensure that this does not happen again in Bhagardi.

Recently, Ram, Manesh, volunteer Madeline and Hari visited the work. They found that the wall built to strengthen the riverbank has been well built and is of good quality. It is a very professional job. The wall starts at 9 metres underwater and rises to the top of the riverbank.

Hari has had a meeting with the local people and the building committee. They are verypleased and grateful to the Gibraltar committee for their financial support through clinic Nepal. Support also came from the District Development Committee, Meghauli Village Development Committee and labour and materials were donated by the local people.

Es ist nicht leicht, all diese Eindrücke und Erfahrungen zu schildern, all das Gesehene und Erlernte in ein paar Sätzen zu bündeln. Denn es ist eine andere Welt, ein anderes Leben, dort, im Süden Nepals, direkt an der Grenze zum Chitwan National Park. Es ist ein wunderbares Erlebnis und ich kann jedem Medizinstudenten nur empfehlen, die Möglichkeit zu ergreifen, fernab von westlicher Medizin einen Einblick in eine ganz andere Art medizinischen Handelns zu bekommen.

Rubens vollständiger Bericht (mt Bildern) ist absolut lesenswert.

The clinic and kindergarten staff are all fine and well. We are seeing an increase in the number of people coming to the clinic as the weather gets warmer; this is mainly due to infections which increase with the rise in temperature.The farm is green and growing with wheat and Dahl lentil, we had a visit from a German organic farmer who brought with him some seeds for carrot, beetroot and others and we have taught the caretaker farmer to regularly water and irrigate these seeds. We have had to buy a new cow for the farm as the old one stopped producing milk.It is now the end of the school year and all the children are undertaking their final exams, at which point they will have a short vacation. The new term will begin in mid-April.

The new Wolfgang LInke kindergarten building is nearly finished and looks good and we have moved the children and teachers to this building which is alongside the farm. We need to finish the electrics and the ceilings in this building still, but this doesn’t affect us being able to use it successfully. Being next to the farm means the children can have milk from the cow and the bio-fuel facility which is part of the farm is now working well and producing enough gas for the kindergarten to cook the food for the children’s lunch. We had a visit from a German couple Sandra, a Kindergarten Teacher, and Floria, a carpenter, who made some great shelving for the books and puzzles and toys in the kindergarten. They also helped the teachers order the classrooms and we have names for the two classrooms “violet” for the little children and “Sunflower” for the older ones. Craig and the team have painted the names above the doors, the alphabet on the wall and a map mural of the world in various rooms. The Children are taking their end of year exams now to enable them to move up a grade.

The compound around the kindergarten is still to be completed; we have a little garden/play area which was used recently by Craig and the team for a sports day which the children and teachers seemed to enjoy. We still need to build a fence around the compound to protect the safety of the children
In Daldale the kindergarten we have Montessori working well, we had a trainer from the UK to fully establish this method. She has successfully trained the teachers. We have 52 children in the hostel in Daldale who are also completing their finals exams. The majority of the children are then given some time to return to their families to strengthen their family bond. During this break the time will be used to re-furbish and update the surroundings at the hostel before the children begin their studies once again.

Elsewhere work continues with the health camps in Madi. Following work in the Eastern region the camp will now be taken to the Western area. On the next camp on the 27 March a new medical team will be present headed up by a new doctor from Denmark, Birger Aaen-Larsen, a specialist in general medicine and Master of Public Health and experienced General Practitioner working in rural areas in Denmark and Greenland. In this team will also be Dermatologists, German doctors and medical students from both Germany and Spain.

The general health camp will be conducted with a view to identify people that may need further hospital treatment. This treatment, as always, would then be facilitated and funded by the clinic. We would help to use the intelligence gathered from seeing the wide range of patients to better understand particular health needs eg: is there high diabetes or blood pressure problems?

We have future plans to create a permanent outreach building which will allow longer stays at the ‘Health Camp’; it will cut down on the time used to set up tents and signs and also, of course, provide a recognizable muster point where local people can see when applicable treatments may be available. It will also provide us with the ability to facilitate further health outreach in the Madi area.

Meghauli water tower project, as you will know we have been working hard to further this programme over many years. Over the last two weeks I took the local politicians and user group leaders (around 22 people) to see the progress made by other successful projects and see examples of other water projects which we hope we can replicate in Meghauli. Thanks to this visit we were able to ask questions of the existing projects, and learn from their experiences. Now the Government has been asking for bids for consultancy to do the feasibility study and design the tank and so further progress the project in Meghauli.

The Government is asking for existing local Non Governmental Organizations to bid for the implementation of our project and are asking for the project proposal to be put forward within one month.

I am trying to motivate the local user groups to contribute the 5% of financial commitment necessary to fund the implementation of the project. We’ve had a series of meetings and will continue with further ones as necessary. We believe that if the local users contribute 5% they will have a strong sense of ownership towards this project and its ongoing maintenance and upkeep.
The Kindergarten, the farm, hostel, clinic and health outreach would not be possible without the help, enthusiasm and funding of Friends of Clinic Nepal. It is hoped that continued support will further the previously established work and aid further projects in the future.

5 Monate Kindergarten.

Die Erzieherin Sandra aus Freiburg hat 5 Monate in Meghauli verbracht und dabei erstaunliche Erfahrungen im Kindergarten dort gemacht, aber auch einiges an "Entwicklungsarbeit" geleistet. Hier ihr lesenswerter Bericht.
